Tallahassee, FL—On Saturday, patriots rallied at the Florida Capitol Building to call on the state legislature to ban vaccination and mask mandates. The event, “Medical Freedom & Parental Rights: Mother of All Rallies,” was hosted by Luis Miguel, a Republican candidate challenging Marco Rubio in the 2022 U.S. Senate primary. Co-hosting the event were organizations such as the Republican Liberty Caucus, American Populist Union, John Birch Society, Florida Freedom Keepers, and Lexit.

The protest included speeches from Luis Miguel, Bob White (Chairman of the Republican Liberty Caucus of Florida), Michael Sabga (Florida Director for the John Birch Society), Cindy Clagen from Citizens for Medical Freedom, Vince Dao of the American Populist Union, and Justin Waters—a Republican candidate for Congress in FL district 3.

Here is the speech that was given by Miguel:

“Right now… we’re facing a juncture in America. It’s freedom or slavery. It’s liberty or captivity. When have you ever seen anything like this in the history of our country?” asked Miguel, “where you have seemingly all of the powerful forces of influence in America—big business, big government, big pharma—aligned to wage war on our rights and liberties. It has to end.” The Republican candidate went on to state that “We the People, this day, declare our independence.”

Throughout the day, activists waved signs with slogans such as “no mandates,” “my body, my choice,” and “protect our healthcare workers.” Cars passing the event honked in support of the crowd.

The call-to-action occurred two days after Governor Ron DeSantis announced a special session to combat the Federal vaccination mandate that was revealed by Joe Biden in September. Florida’s legislature has also seen an elected official call to bring an end to the mandates. State House Representative Anthony Sabatini (district 32) filed H.B. 75 to ban the state and any political subdivision in Florida from mandating vaccinations or masks. If signed into law, the proposed legislation would also make it illegal for businesses and employers to discriminate based on immunity or vaccination status.
